There is something about the start of a new month that feels like a clean slate. However, so many people fall in to the trap of starting the month super strong, then falling flat mid month.
To avoid this all or nothing cycle there are a few key things you can do to set yourself up for success. When you start the month with clear intentions and a simple to follow plan it can be both fun, and easy to achieve your goals. If your plan is simply to cut out all the things you enjoy, you won’t get very far.
- Create a weekly plan for your dinners and a few options for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. When your dinner menu is planned you know how big of a chunk of calories you will need to save for dinner. Ordering your favorite Thai take-out? Save yourself extra calories by eating a high-volume salad for lunch.
- Schedule your workouts like important meetings with yourself. Make appointments on your calendar to block out the time. Think of these meetings as a plan to meet your BFF. You wouldn’t leave them hanging, would you? Show up for yourself like you do others.
- Be realistic with how quickly you will see progress. Major changes happen when you are consistent for a long period of time. Don’t focus on the scale. Focus on getting conditioned, building strength, and moving your body in a way that feels challenging.
- Create accountability. When my client came to me she was struggling to stay consistent for more than 2-3 weeks at a time. We set up a plan to meet for 1:1 calls at this exact time frame because she recognized this pattern. When you have someone to check in on you you are way more likely to follow through.
Instead of saying “I want to lose 10 pounds” create a plan to be as consistent as possible over the next 10 weeks. Your body can make incredible changes when you give it time. When you take great care of yourself, your life changes.
